Two Exams, One Platform

The oral exam and the written exam are separate assessments. Each has its own dedicated module — switch between them below.

Primary healthcare schedule 10 min · No refs

Primary Healthcare

A primary care scenario — pain, rash, eye problem — in role play. You take a patient history, identify the condition, and recommend OTC treatment, lifestyle advice, or referral with justification.

History-taking OTC management Referral decisions
Legal & ethical schedule 5 min · No refs

Legal & Ethical Practice

A scenario — forged prescription, verbal prescriber instructions, dispensing error — without role play. You identify the legal and ethical issues, state your final actions, and explain how to prevent recurrence.

Problem Solving & Communication

A prescription and patient medication history. In role play with the AI as patient and prescriber, you identify problems — interactions, contraindications, dose errors, duplicate therapy — and resolve them.

Common Questions

Clear answers about the oral exam, APC written exam, and how AI-powered practice fits into your internship.

  • Voice oral practice
  • APC written format
  • Instant feedback
What does the oral exam actually involve?

The Pharmacy Board oral examination is 35 minutes across three parts: a primary healthcare scenario (10 mins, role play, no references), a legal and ethical scenario (5 mins, no references), and a case scenario (20 mins, prescription and medication history role play, references and internet allowed). It is held three times a year — February, June, and October.

What is the APC written exam?

The APC Intern Written Exam consists of 75 randomised questions — multiple choice (MCQ) and fill-in-the-blank (FIB) calculations — to be completed in 2 hours. Questions cover all APC competency areas including pharmacology, therapeutics, pharmacy law, clinical calculations, and OTC management. The platform's chapter quizzes, timed mock exams, and practice question bank are all built to mirror this format.

How does the AI role-play work?

The AI is given a hidden patient brief — symptoms, medication history, comorbidities, and an embedded clinical or legal problem — and plays the patient or prescriber in conversation. The intern asks history questions and the AI only reveals information when the right questions are asked. After the session, a structured debrief scores the intern on the same four axes used in the real oral exam: patient safety, therapy optimisation, legal and professional conduct, and factual knowledge.

Can I practise the oral exam by speaking, not typing?

Yes. Voice mode is the default for timed oral mocks. You speak; the AI patient or prescriber responds in voice. This is designed to match how primary healthcare and case scenarios are conducted in the real exam — including out-of-role-play examiner questions in primary healthcare scenarios and calling the prescriber in case scenarios.

How is feedback different from reading a model answer?

After each session you receive a structured verdict — competent or not yet competent — scored against the same four considerations used in the Pharmacy Board oral guide, plus specific good points, missed points, and domain scores. Results update your competency tracker automatically so you can see patterns across sessions.

Is the written mock actually like the APC exam?

The full written mock follows APC CBT conventions: 75 questions in 2 hours, MCQ and FIB calculations, NDA and tutorial, scientific calculator, no feedback until submit, and scoring on 68 items with a competency breakdown at the end. Chapter quizzes and the question bank use the same question formats with instant feedback for study.

Is there a human tutor or live support?

No. The platform is entirely self-serve and AI-powered. There are no live tutors, no scheduled sessions, and no human support included in any plan. You prepare at your own pace using the tools provided.

When should I start preparing?

The Board recommends using training plans and CPD throughout your internship rather than cramming before the exam. Most interns find 3 months of structured practice sufficient. The Exam Ready plan gives you 3 months of full access for that reason.
